My comment is simple, your article was titled as I read it, I quote, "Greatest ROAD racer of all time," I have to say when I went to school, road was spelt ROAD not TRACK, the majority of the so called racers you mentioned would know absolutely nothing about ROAD racing, Rossi, Doohan and the likes, would not know a road race if it hit them in the head, please do not insult the Real Road racers by putting them in this elite club, which has included HAILWOOD, AGOSTINI, SURTEEES, REDMAN, BROWN, PHILLIS, TAVERI, READ, IVY and of course DUNLOP, there are many more, you should know who they are, if you can spell ROAD correctly.

John Surtees by a whisker from Mick Doohan mainly because he was an all round champion on both 2 & 4 wheels in a time when tyre technology and circuit safety hardly existed.

I vote for Mick, the only traction control he had was in his right wrist.

In a time of pre electronic pre computer assisted this and that and MV Agusta's where real, Agostini ruled the roost.

Sir John Surtees, He rode & won 7 world motor cycle titles in an era before they were designed & set up by computers.

Give Rossi a Malvern Star with a whipper snipper motor and he would still be up there with the pack. The guys a freak on a bike, pretty to watch and a genuine nice fella to boot.

Hi,has to be Doohan because he's "A Stine"
no other reason.
Joey "Yer Maun" Dunlop had the balls to do it on the streets, even Ago didn't want to do that (too dangerous),Joey is an alltime legend, even died doing it on street circuits.NW 200

it has to be Sir John Surtees, as he is still the only motorcycle racer to win the coverted motorcycle GP and F1 world champion titles on both 2 wheels and then 4 and who is still at his age involved as team mangement and riding motorcycles in the sport.

Without doubt Mike Hailwood. He won:
- on almost all bike sizes and types (2 and 4 stroke)
- on both closed and road circuits all over the world,
- over a long career (included a break to race F1/F2 cars pretty decently)

No other rider so far has depth and breadth of winning, though Agostini is bloody close.

I would say the odds must favour Joey Dunlop or Mike Hailwood. The reasoning is that Hailwood won over 2 distinct eras of racing and also won the Isle of Man (IOM).Joey Dunlop is unimpeacahble as the greatest ever at the IOM, a track that has killer over 120 riders. He also won a 500cc world Championship.

Agostini won 15 world championships and also at the IOM.

Rossi has never raced the IOM so cannot be included for this singular reason.

Until the IOM is deemed too dangerous to ride, a road racer who wants to challenge for the concept of "being the best" must race it.

Hi,
I voted for Rossi just purely on what he has acheived during my time spent watching him in awe.
He is a freak on streak that hopefully can be broken by Casey this year. He wins on anything he rides. Cant wait for him to join Ducati in the next couple of years ;)

Cheers,

Jas from Pakenham.
