Rumours that Norton has applied for two grid slots in MotoGP for 2012 are circulating after a respected MotoGP journalist printed a story in Austrian magazine Speed Week.

Gunther Wiesinger has claimed the resurgent British company has asked for two slots on the 2012 grid from MotoGP organisers, Dorna as the series returns to 1000cc capacity from the current 800cc.

Speed Week reports Norton boss Stuart Garner has sent an application to Dorna boss Carmelo Ezpeleta to participate in the series when MotoGP returns to 1000cc in 2012.

Neither Dorna or Garner were available to comment on the story.
